An Update on Infection Control: Keeping You and Your Patients Safe

Course Description

This presentation will address fundamental recommendations and requirements for infection control. During this course we will also discuss common errors - in particular, errors occurring during instrument reprocessing. In addition, the presentation will address aerosols, the relevance for various microorganisms, and recent learnings.  

Learning Objectives

The overall goal of this presentation is to provide information on infection control in the dental office. After attending this presentation, participants should be able to:

  • Describe fundamentals of infection control discussed during the presentation
  • Identify sources of errors and potential solutions
  • Review what we have learned about aerosols, microorganisms in the dental setting, and recent learnings.

About Fiona Collins


Dr. Fiona Collins has presented on topics including infection control, oral disease prevention and management, oral-systemic health, vaping, antibiotic stewardship, and chemotherapeutics. She has lectured throughout North America, as well as in the UK, the Middle East and the Pacific Rim. Fiona is a member of the ADA, participant in Standards working groups, and the Organization for Safety, Asepsis and Prevention. She is also the ADA representative to the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) and a Fellow of the Pierre Fauchard Academy. During her career, Fiona has lived and worked in five countries, and has held positions in clinical practice, education, the dental industry and consulting. Dr. Collins graduated as a general dentist from the University of Glasgow, Scotland and holds an MBA and an MA from Boston University.
