Diagnosis and Management of TMJ Disorders with Emphasis on Reversible Therapies

Dentists encounter several patients with TMD over the course of the practice, where the symptoms could range from a simple clicking to jaw locking or referred pain to the contiguous structure. The objective of this presentation is to discuss the elements of diagnosis of TMD, and the role of different therapies to provide symptomatic relief.  Customizing the care through treatment modalities such as palliative care, splint therapy, and physical therapy individually or in combination will be discussed.

About Dr. Sharath Chandra V Chedella

Dr. Sharath Chandra V Chedella is a RCDC board certified Prosthodontist who received his Dental Degree from Kuvempu University in 2001. Upon completing his degree he worked as a general dentist for next 5 years. In 2006, he moved to the U.S.A to study Dental Biomaterials at Marquette University School of Dentistry, Milwaukee, WI. He received a Master of Science degree in Dental Biomaterials in 2008, and was also awarded Raynor Fellowship for his academic excellence. He then completed his residency in OroFacial Pain/TemporoMandibular Disorders at the Eastman Institute for Oral Health in 2012.This was followed by a 3-year postdoctoral residency program in Prosthodontics specialty that completed in 2016, where he was the recipient of the Dr. Gerald N Graser Award for clinical excellence.

Most recently he served as a Clinical Instructor in the Prosthodontics Department at the University Of Toronto Faculty Of Dentistry and has a passion for providing exceptional patient care in the area removable, fixed and implant-based prosthodontic treatment in addition to TMJ disorders for needy patients in close collaboration with the referring dentist.

About Dr. Fritz Zietsman

D.D.S

Dr. Fritz  Zietsman, D.D.S. graduated magna cum laude from Stony Brook University’s School of Dental Medicine on Long Island, N.Y.  He subsequently completed a three year advanced specialty education in Prosthodontics at the Eastman Institute for Oral Health in Rochester, N.Y.  He is originally from South Africa and immigrated to Westchester County where he completed a bachelor’s degree in Biology at Purchase College before entering dental school.    Dr. Zietsman’s research includes the application and integration of digital technology to optimize results for complex dental treatments.  He has presented on aspects of digital dentistry at various national and international meetings. Dr. Zietsman works in private practice limited to Prosthodontics in Binghamton, N.Y, where he routinely uses digital dental technologies to restore, rehabilitate and rejuvenate the oral health and smiles of his patients.
